Next time you and your pup head out for a stroll around the neighborhood, don’t forget to bring some of their favorite treats!
Training while out on a walk is a great way to help generalize behaviors. This will also teach your pup to pay more attention to you while outside of your home, so you can more easily ask them to leave that squirrel or yummy thing they find.
Remember, dog’s do what we reinforce, and forgetting your treat bag means missing opportunities to reinforce your pup’s awesome behavior. The behaviors I choose to reinforce on a walk are checking in with me, loose leash walking, leave it, and passing by other people/dogs without a fuss.
Reward your dog for those moments of brilliance and both of you will start to enjoy your walks even more.
